Super Bowl XLIV

Ryan Lilja has reportedly been cut by the Indianapolis Colts today.  The reasons for the move are unclear at the moment, but rumor is it could have something to do with his poor play and the fact that he is due a $1.73 million bonus soon. In the grand scheme of things that’s not that much money, but that’s $1.73 million they could use to pay other players, like the Andy Alleman, the new Colt offensive lineman they just picked up in free agency.

I’m on record for saying how stupid mock drafts are and the people who make them are just as dumb.  So guess what I did?  I wasted a little over two hours of my weekend creating a mock draft.  The reason I decided to make a mock draft was mostly to prove a point — even the most astute football minds don’t know what they are talking about when it comes to predicting the draft.  It’s all a big guessing game, but you never know, I might get lucky and get a few right.

You can see it in all its glory after the jump.

Love him or hate him, Bill Polian is one good judge of football players. His genius has kept the Colts near the top of the NFL for several years. He knows what to look for in a player, not just in terms of talent, but in character. He can read a players potential and know what role he will play in what seems to most of us a giant guessing game. How does he know what Player X, Y and Z will be able to do and how they will help the team? Now, I don’t agree with every decision he makes, but you really can’t argue with his track record. Most wins in the last decade, playoff appears in nine of the last 10 years, seven consecutive seasons with at least 12 wins. I mean that’s impressive. Only a few more Super Bowl wins could make this any better. With his current contract due to expire in 2011 and retirement looming in the distance, I guess his future is in the hands of the team owner, Jim Irsay.

Indianapolis Colts v Houston Texans

It’s time to get caught up on a few things.

Two days ago I mentioned that the Antoine Bethea was tendered, keeping him in a Colts uniform for another year.  Yesterday, Bob Sanders’ double, Melvin Bullit, was hit with a second round tender, along with Charlie Johnson, Daniel Muir, and Antonio Johnson.  Basically all of the important players were retained, which is outstanding news.

In a move that surprised no one, Gary Brackett will remain an Indianapolis Colt. Despite passing this morning’s 12:01 deadline, the unrestricted free agent agreed to a five-year deal. The contract will pay Brackett $33 million, including a signing bonus of $12 million. The deal makes Brackett one of the highest paid players at his position in the NFL.

The signing bucks a long-time trend by the Colts’ front office to let talented linebackers walk. In the past, players such as Cato June, Mike Peterson, and David Thornton have all been allowed to pursue free agency. However, while talented, those players never held the distinction of being defensive captain – a title that Brackett has held since the 2007 season.

Staying up-to-date with the latest, the Colts now have just one unrestricted free agent in K Matt Stover, who is expected to retire. Of their restricted free agents, safeties Melvin Bullitt and Antonie Bethea, along with LT Charlie Johnson, DT Antonio “Mookie” Johnson, and DT Daniel Muir have all been tendered. CB Marlin Jackson, PR T.J. Rushing, and the remaining restricted free agents were not given offers by the Colts and will become unrestricted free agents.

As some of us continue to recover from the devastating heartbreak that was Super Bowl XLIV, we Colts fans finally have good news to help lift our spirits as we continue to work towards the 2010 season.
The most important free agent not named Gary Brackett, has officially been pimp-slapped with a first round tender.  While [...]

So the NFL Scouting Combine started today, big whoop. Unless you are in the minority — one of the few times being in the minority is actually a good thing — and pay for the NFL Network, you probably won’t be able to see any of it, aside from video clips on NFL.com. Either way, [...]

Lets go back to the Super Bowl game for a moment (now before you start swearing like a sailor at me and going to the next article, please listen to me, just give me a minute).
I can’t get that game out of my head; I can’t get away from it anywhere. A constant reminder haunts [...]

Randy Moss has all but given up in New England.  Leading up to what will be his fourth season with the Patriots, Randy Moss doesn’t think he’ll be a Patriot after his contract runs out after the 2010 season.
Randy Moss is essentially quiting, again, on a team that has given him a chance to prove [...]
