Rutgers v Connecticut

I’m on record for saying how stupid mock drafts are and the people who make them are just as dumb.  So guess what I did?  I wasted a little over two hours of my weekend creating a mock draft.  The reason I decided to make a mock draft was mostly to prove a point — even the most astute football minds don’t know what they are talking about when it comes to predicting the draft.  It’s all a big guessing game, but you never know, I might get lucky and get a few right.

You can see it in all its glory after the jump.

It’s not the sexiest of picks, however I think the value at that particular spot is extremely good.  When you think about it, the Colts are very thin at the corner position.  The only players who remain from last season are Hayden, Powers, and Lacey.  The latter two being rookies last season.  While Kelvin Hayden is a proven commodity and Jerraud Powers showed us moments of brilliance, I’m still torn on Jacob Lacey.  And regardless of my feelings for Lacey, there’s really no one behind him, and that’s a scary thought.

Tim Jennings is hopefully gone for good now, Marlin Jackson is testing the free agent waters, Aaron Francisco has yet to be re-signed, and T.J. Rushing is just not good at playing corner.  So the more I thought about it, the more I started to really like this pick.

For those of you out there screaming for the Colts to draft an OT, I ask that you be patient.  There will still be good OT’s towards the end of the second round that are good value for that spot.  Remember, just because you draft someone in the first round doesn’t mean he’s going to be the greatest player ever.  We don’t want another Tony Ugoh on our hands now do we?
