Grooming an Heir
Mar 7th
Love him or hate him, Bill Polian is one good judge of football players. His genius has kept the Colts near the top of the NFL for several years. He knows what to look for in a player, not just in terms of talent, but in character. He can read a players potential and know what role he will play in what seems to most of us a giant guessing game. How does he know what Player X, Y and Z will be able to do and how they will help the team? Now, I don’t agree with every decision he makes, but you really can’t argue with his track record. Most wins in the last decade, playoff appears in nine of the last 10 years, seven consecutive seasons with at least 12 wins. I mean that’s impressive. Only a few more Super Bowl wins could make this any better. With his current contract due to expire in 2011 and retirement looming in the distance, I guess his future is in the hands of the team owner, Jim Irsay.
The future looks bright

I can’t get that game out of my head; I can’t get away from it anywhere. A constant reminder haunts me on the NFL network (who are apparently trying to kill Colts fans since the game is replayed at least a few times a week) and most sports sites, especially if they have an NFL page. I don’t believe it helps either that Mardi Gras started early this year has been going on now for almost a month. Believe me, Colts fans, I do not want to think about it anymore either, but we played not to lose, too conservative, not well enough to win, unlike we did the rest of the regular season, including the playoffs. For me, the bitterness of the Super Bowl has passed and is totally forgotten. Ok that’s a giant lie, but at least I can admit it and try working on being more positive.
How Long is This Going to Hurt?

I don’t feel very good at the moment. I have a sickening feeling. It feels like I just got punched in the stomach or maybe even one of my kidneys. I am not sure how it happened or where it came from; all I know is it was out of the blue. I was just standing there and all of the sudden, fist meets kidney (or stomach, if that’s your preference). My natural reaction is to wince, double over, and hold myself for comfort; did I catch some type of bug? This is how I have felt for the past 24 hours.
Colts Defense, Where’s the Love?
Feb 6th
What do you think of when someone talks about the Colts defense? I am sure there are hundreds of different responses that come to mind. Some examples from the past include: Cover 2, soft, bend but don’t break, and one of my favorites, the dreaded “F” (finesse). Best in the league, respected, and run-stoppers are not in the common speak. Polian has built the Colts around Manning and its many weapons on offense, and obviously so. The defense has built more as an afterthought, very few high draft picks (excluding Freeney, for example), most of whom are lower round and unsigned free agents pick-ups. But that doesn’t mean that they should be treated like a kid brother, someone who is kicked around anymore.
