Site changes to come
Mar 24th
Hello our faithful readers. I just wanted to update everyone on some interesting things we have in store for the 12th Horseman in the near future.
1) We’re looking to upgrade our site format. We’ve been experiencing many problems with our current theme as many of you have expressed to us. We’ve heard your cries loud and clear and are looking to actually dish out some cash to make this place top notch.
2) We’re looking to upgrade our staff. Our first go around didn’t exactly pan out, with a bunch of no shows and noncommittals. I’ve posted a few help wanted ads on our Facebook page, but haven’t had any hits on that. If you or someone you know is a knowledgeable and passionate NFL fan and is literate, send them our way and we’ll check them out.
These two things (excuses) are the reason for my absence lately. I’d like to commend Derek and Andrew for holding down the fort for the last week or so, you guys did a great job. Now it’s my responsibility to get us all caught up. Stay tuned.
Desperation is a stinky cologne, right David Garrard?
Mar 12th
My buddy over at PFT made mention that David Garrard is going to emulate Peyton Manning from now on, as far as preparation for games is concerned. It makes sense really, Peyton is arguably the most “intelligent” quarterback in the league. This isn’t all that interesting really, however, the truly remarkable point in all of this is Garrard plans on actually calling Peyton and asking him for advice. Like, literally call him on the phone.
Now, if I know Peyton, this is a perfect time for him to pull a fast one on the prodigy, David Garrard. I can only imagine all of the misinformation Peyton would be making up just to fill Garrard’s head and have him thinking Peyton is actually helping him. It’s called being a sucker, something I’ve always felt Garrard is.
Ryan Lilja Cut
Mar 8th
Ryan Lilja has reportedly been cut by the Indianapolis Colts today. The reasons for the move are unclear at the moment, but rumor is it could have something to do with his poor play and the fact that he is due a $1.73 million bonus soon. In the grand scheme of things that’s not that much money, but that’s $1.73 million they could use to pay other players, like the Andy Alleman, the new Colt offensive lineman they just picked up in free agency.
12th Horseman’s Mock Draft
Mar 8th
I’m on record for saying how stupid mock drafts are and the people who make them are just as dumb. So guess what I did? I wasted a little over two hours of my weekend creating a mock draft. The reason I decided to make a mock draft was mostly to prove a point — even the most astute football minds don’t know what they are talking about when it comes to predicting the draft. It’s all a big guessing game, but you never know, I might get lucky and get a few right.
You can see it in all its glory after the jump.
News, news, and more news
Mar 5th
It’s time to get caught up on a few things.
Two days ago I mentioned that the Antoine Bethea was tendered, keeping him in a Colts uniform for another year. Yesterday, Bob Sanders’ double, Melvin Bullit, was hit with a second round tender, along with Charlie Johnson, Daniel Muir, and Antonio Johnson. Basically all of the important players were retained, which is outstanding news.
First round tender for Bethea? Yes please.
Mar 3rd
As some of us continue to recover from the devastating heartbreak that was Super Bowl XLIV, we Colts fans finally have good news to help lift our spirits as we continue to work towards the 2010 season.
The most important free agent not named Gary Brackett, has officially been pimp-slapped with a first round tender. While this is great news and all but guarantees Bethea will be wearing a Colts uniform for at least one more season, he’s still not untouchable. Another team could pull a real dick move and offer him some insane contract, thereby forcing the Colts to decline any type of offer that would match outbid the opposing team. If that were to happen and the Colts decided to match the insane contract, you can kiss Gary Brackett goodbye. There’s no way both of those guys are going to get major contracts this season, thus the first round tender.
The likelihood of something like this happen is closer to none, but it’s still possible.
Random Musings on the Draft and Combine
Feb 24th
So the NFL Scouting Combine started today, big whoop. Unless you are in the minority — one of the few times being in the minority is actually a good thing — and pay for the NFL Network, you probably won’t be able to see any of it, aside from video clips on NFL.com. Either way, the underwear olympics is in full swing, which means the draft is just that much closer.
If you’re concerned you may be missing out on the excitement of the combine, trust me, you aren’t missing much. The only important part about the combine are the player interviews and the mental tests. The shuttle run, 40 yard dash, high jump, bench press, and the rest of the crap those guys are subjected to, is meaningless. If you weren’t aware that these draftees are really fast and really strong then I recommend counseling or a taking a higher dose of your sanity meds.
When the times get tough, Randy Moss just quits
Feb 21st
Randy Moss has all but given up in New England. Leading up to what will be his fourth season with the Patriots, Randy Moss doesn’t think he’ll be a Patriot after his contract runs out after the 2010 season.
Randy Moss is essentially quiting, again, on a team that has given him a chance to prove that he is one of the best receivers in NFL history — tell me you didn’t see this coming. The Patriots took a gamble on the problem player, a player who proved in Oakland that he doesn’t play for the team, he plays for himself. People bought into the hype that he would become a team player in New England. They believed that if anyone could keep Randy Moss in line, the immortal Bill Belichick could. Because as we all know, Bill Belichick is the greatest coach in NFL history. He’s a defensive genius and demands respect from his players, and became one of the founders of the “Patriot Way.” He has three rings after all, so by default he has to be great right?
The fact remains that Randy Moss plays for no one but Randy Moss. Randy Moss only plays when Randy Moss wants to.
Final Eight Plan Explained
Feb 18th
There are times during a normal routine that one beckons for change for the sake of change — monotony is the leading cause of death in people with a life you know? Change can be fun, it can be exciting, it can lift the spirits of a person depending on the situation. Or it could confuse and annoy the piss out of people.
Right now I’m having mixed feelings. Generally, I welcome change because of my indecisive personality (disorder?), but right now I don’t, only because having to re-learn something is slightly irritating.
2010 Colts Free Agents Review
Feb 15th
The 2010 season marks the first time the NFL has seen an uncapped season since 1993. With that comes a slew of new rules and regulations regarding the free agency market. For the most part these changes won’t hurt the Colts, in fact, they’ll have the opposite effect.
The only “true” unrestricted free agent that we should be worried about going into the 2010 season is Gary Brackett, which I briefly touched on last week. If everything works out the way we anticipate, Gary Brackett will finish his career with the Indianapolis Colts, however that is still to be determined.
